UK rail operator Northern Rail is installing new customer information screens (CIS) at stations across Cheshire in the north-west of England.

The new screens are designed to provide current train running information as and when needed.

The installation of CIS in this area is part of a £3m investment by Northern and its partners, which will see 140 stations across the north of England equipped with the new technology.

A joint venture of Serco and Abellio, Northern Rail, has invested about £264,000 In this project, and is working with Cheshire West and Chester Council.

"The launch of these customer information screens demonstrates our commitment to investing in communication channels at our smaller stations."

Stations at Lostock Gralam and Cuddington are now equipped with the new screens with funding provided by the council.

Cheshire West and Chester Council economic development and infrastructure cabinet member Cllr Brian Clarke said: "Working in partnership with Northern Rail enables the council to add value and bring more improvements to Cheshire West stations.

Other stations in the area that have benefitted from new CIS screens include Alderley Edge, Poynton, Northwich, Sandbach, Greenbank, Sankey for Penketh, Delamere and Padgate.

Northern Rail customer service director Natalie Loughborough said: "We listen carefully to our customers’ feedback and we know they value real-time travel information.

"The launch of these customer information screens demonstrates our commitment to investing in communication channels at our smaller stations. These are just some of the screens that have been installed at 140 locations across the North in 2015."
