In August, DB’s passenger and rail freight transport business units were combined into a traffic and transport division, which will use the DB logo that will serve as a visual reflection of that partnership.

It is reported the logo change will make DB’s brand profile more straightforward and unite all its rail activities under a single brand.

"All DB Schenker Rail companies in Germany and abroad are to be rebranded by the end of this year."

DB Cargo sales head Andreas Busemann said: "The aim is to improve the product portfolio and service quality we offer our customers, and having the business units in the rail system partnering together will further that aim."

In addition, DB’s rail and logistics activities were separated, with global logistics currently using the DB Schenker brand and rail freight using the DB Cargo name.

Busemann added: "Although we are separating our logistics and rail businesses from each other by name, we will of course continue to offer integrated rail transport and logistics services throughout Europe where it makes sense for the market and our customers."

In July, proposals were announced for the possible part-privatisation of DB Schenker Logistics and the Arriva passenger business that operates outside Germany.

It is reported the part-privatisation plans are in doubt following government indications that it is unhappy with DB’s proposals.
