German transport company Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) has exercised an option with a consortium of Vossloh Kiepe and Stadler Rail Valencia to deliver additional 25 CityLink NET 2012 tram-trains.

The consortium secured a contract in October 2011 to supply 25 new low-floor vehicles and an option for 25 extra vehicles was exercised last year. The second option will bring the total number of these vehicles on order to 75.
25 vehicles from the initial order are already operational in Karlsruhe and the majority are in daily passenger operation, while manufacturing has started on the second batch with the 26th vehicle scheduled for delivery in the near future.
The vehicles ordered under the current option are scheduled to be delivered from the third quarter of next year.
The vehicles will be used on the S1/S11 city centre and regional lines operated by the AVG light rail transit system between Hochstetten and Bad Herrenalb / Ittersbach.

By GlobalDataAccording to AVG, the vehicles will connect areas around Karlsruhe with the city centre and its accessibility will make a huge contribution to mobility in the region.
Similar to its predecessor, the new Citylink vehicles have dual approval under BOStrab and EBO regulations. These vehicles are specially adapted to the city’s infrastructure and regional tracks on which they operate.
At low-level platforms in Karlsruhe, the NET 2012 presents a boarding height of 340mm. It means the vehicle can be accessed from tramway platform level and meets the strict collision requirements of regional railway stations.
The Citylink vehicles will be equipped with Vossloh Kiepe traction kits and the entire drive technology and vehicle control system.
For the new vehicles, Vossloh Kiepe also supplies onboard power, HVAC equipment for passenger and driver compartments, safety and passenger information systems, as well as a video monitoring system.
