UK's Network Rail is set to carry out repair and refurbishment works on the Cutty Sark railway bridge, in order to extend its lifespan and ensure safe operations.
A contraflow will be placed on the A8 between the new A8 / A89 roundabout and Bargeddie junction (A752) during the refurbishment for a 20-week period from 5 June.

Network Rail programme manager Billy McKay said: “We understand that this will be inconvenient for road users, which is why we have worked with the Scottish Roads Partnership to deliver our programme at a time where there is other planned work on the A8 in order to minimise disruption.
“Delivering this work in 20 weeks is a logistical challenge, but we have planned the job carefully with our contractors and will complete it with the minimum possible inconvenience.”
The development is part of a maintenance programme of railway infrastructures and will include the strengthening of the main girders and bridge deck, blast cleaning and masonry repairing, as well as renovation of the metalwork and applying corrosion protection to steelwork.
Plans have also been outlined to paint the entire bridge and clear the adjacent vegetation under the project.
