Additionally, Hyperloop One and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will sign a public private partnership agreement to start a viability study in Colorado with the assistance of US-based engineering firm AECOM.

The competition's winning routes were Cheyenne-Denver-Pueblo, Chicago-Columbus-Pittsburgh, Miami-Orlando and Dallas-Houston in the US; Edinburgh-London and Glasgow-Liverpool in the UK; Mexico City-Guadalajara in the Mexico; Bengaluru-Chennai and Mumbai-Chennai in India; and Toronto-Montreal in Canada.

Hyperloop One co-founder and engineering president Josh Giegel said: “We’re encouraged by these compelling projects that aim to increase passenger mobility, connect urban centres, reimagine trade and cargo, and enhance quality of life.

“We look forward to working closely with all the winners, their partners and local authorities to examine the feasibility and scope of these routes and, ultimately, build the first Hyperloop routes around the world.”

Following detailed analysis, the company is expected to investigate the proposals further in order to estimate the routes' initial ridership, business case and preliminary technical analysis.

Hyperloop One's business and technical leaders will also conduct in-country workshops with each team and connect them with its global partner network to hone the scope of the potential routes.

The Hyperloop One Global Challenge began in May last year with an inivitation for individuals, universities, companies and governments to submit comprehensive proposals for the implementation of Hyperloop One's transportation technology.
