New Zealand rail transport operator KiwiRail has deployed Quintiq's new planning software after a nine-week implementation period.

The new solution from Dassault Systèmes' Quintiq brand is set to improve workforce planning and rostering at KiwiRail, as well as support its various workforce optimisation goals.

Quintiq is primarily engaged in the delivery of rail crew planning and optimisation technology to freight and passenger rail companies.

The company’s customers include DB Cargo, Green Cargo, Queensland Rail, Transport for London and Italy’s NTV.

KiwiRail chief investment officer Ed Overy said: “Quintiq offers us an innovative technology that will support our planners in managing the unique constraints for our freight business.”

KiwiRail currently operates approximately 800 freight services per week across New Zealand and transports nearly 4.5 billion net tonne kilometres of freight annually.
