Swiss rail construction company Stadler has won a tender for a framework agreement to provide 80 Tramlink vehicles to Italian public transport company Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM).

The initial six-year framework agreement is for 30 trams, which will be used on the Milan network.

An objection period has commenced following the award of the contract to allow unsuccessful bidders to opt for a verification procedure against the decision.

The framework can be signed only after the completion of the deadline.

Earlier this month, Stadler won a tender issued by Polish railway operator PKP Intercity for the supply of 12 eight-car FLIRT multiple units.

Stadler will also be responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles for 15 years.

The 12 vehicles will supplement PKP Intercity’s existing fleet of 20 FLIRT units. The current trains have been in operation in the Polish railway since December 2015.

Last month, German public transport authority Schleswig Holstein (NAH.SH) selected Stadler as the preferred bidder for the supply of 55 battery-powered FLIRT Akku multiple units.

The scope of the contract includes the delivery of the battery-powered trains and their maintenance for 30 years.

Stadler said that NAH.SN is the first buyer of its FLIRT Akku trains, which was first unveiled by the company in October last year.

The FLIRT Akku is the battery-operated version of the FLIRT type series. The vehicle is designed to operate on non-electrified or partly-electrified routes in Europe.

Even though the version uses similar traction equipment and important mechanical components installed in the FLIRT trains, the power train was rebuilt and equipped with a battery drive.

The FLIRT Akku train can operate at a maximum speed of 140km/h.

The batteries of the train can be charged during operations under the overhead line, at non-electrified end stops and with the energy generated during braking.
