Sener to design Porto metro extension in Portugal
Engineering group Sener has received a contract from Metro do Porto to design the extension of the Porto Metro Network in Portugal.
Engineering group Sener has received a contract from Metro do Porto to design the extension of the Porto Metro Network in Portugal.
Under the contract, Sener will carry out detailed designing works of a section of the Circular Line between Boavista/Casa da Música and Praça da Liberdade.
Measuring 2.8km in length, this underground section will consist of four stations.

Prior to this contract, Sener had completed multiple projects for the Porto light rail transit (LRT) system.
The company led the joint venture responsible for providing technical assistance to Metro do Porto, in addition to conducting preliminary design and technical specifications of the project, negotiating with the contractors and reviewing the designs.
It was also involved with the project management, tunnel construction and commissioning of the line.
Furthermore, Sener participated in reviewing the full metro network operated by the consortium Normetro from 2006 to 2010.
Subsequently, it was awarded the contract to provide technical assistance for the second construction phase of the metro project.
The scope of this contract includes assessing designs, launching bids and monitoring the execution of civil engineering works.
Operational since 2002, Porto LRT connects seven municipalities of the Porto Metropolitan Area.
With a total length of nearly 67km, the system serves more than 55 million passengers across four lines.
The overall network is a combination of escalated and underground sections comprising a total of 71 stations, 14 of which are below ground.
