Arriva UK train subsidiary and rail operator Northern has announced plans to introduce new trains for various cities and routes.
These new trains will operate in locations including Lincoln, Gainsborough, Worksop, Nottingham, Leeds and Sheffield.
The company said that around 50 trains will begin operations from 15 December 2019. It expects a further 49 to start operations next year.
Train features will include air-conditioning, power sockets near the seats, free Wi-Fi services and customer information screens. They will also offer more space and better accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
The new trains are part of Northern’s £500m investment to transform the travel in north England. The trains were purchased with investment from Eversholt Rail Group.
The rail operator is in the process of upgrading its existing fleet of 268 trains and modernising its stations. It has started an additional 2,000 services weekly since 2016.
