The Government of Victoria is set to ramp up development works on new tracks that will carry trams around the Domain construction site next month as a part of the A$11bn ($8.24bn) Metro Tunnel Project.
Construction on the new Toorak Road West route intended for use by Route 58 trams has already started.
St Kilda Road lanes in Melbourne will be closed for the next two months due to the ongoing development works.
St Kilda Road will be reduced to two lanes in both directions between Domain Road and Toorak Road West over the first weekend of the next month, and during the last week of June, to facilitate the construction..
The road will be reduced to one lane for the first 11 days of July, and the authority will supply shuttle buses to help provide smoother journeys for commuters during the disruption.
Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan said: “We’re getting on with the Metro Tunnel, to run more trains, more often right across Melbourne.

By GlobalData“This will have impacts on St Kilda Road, and I thank motorists and passengers for their patience whilst we get this vital work done.
“After four years of inaction under the former Liberal Government who abandoned the Metro Tunnel, we’re not wasting a moment.”
Traffic at Toorak Road West is also estimated to be affected between St Kilda Rd and Park St, as the eastbound lane will be closed from 13 June for a two-week period.
The eastbound lane will reopen on school holidays but the westbound lane will remain closed for the construction of new tracks and two stops.
Both lanes are set to resume service on 12 July when Domain Road will then be closed to develop a new underground station.
St Kilda Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from early next year for an indefinite period until the completion of Domain underground station.
The new station will provide turn-up-and-go train services to the Shrine of Remembrance, Royal Botanic Gardens and St Kilda Road.
Metro tunnel work at Arden is also currently underway, while preparations are ongoing for the construction of new CBD stations under Swanston Street.
