Software processing tools manufacturer Trimble has developed the new GEDO IMS System, the latest addition to its track survey and scanning rail portfolio.

Equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), along with scanning and geodetic sensors, the new system can be used to survey railway lines and document all assets along the track.

The lightweight trolley system is flexible and offers accurate as-built survey documentation of the track.

The whole system comprises Trimble GEDO CE 2.0 Trolley System, Trimble GEDO IMU Unit, Trimble Tablet PC and the Trimble GEDO IMS Field and GEDO Office Software.

"The GEDO system can deliver a wider range of applications to enable users to increase productivity while minimising track occupation.”

Ideal for single-crew operation, it also provides 3D point clouds for asset data collection along the track.

Trimble Geospatial GEDO track surveying and scanning solutions marketing director Andreas Sinning said: “Trimble continues to expand its portfolio of track survey and scanning solutions. We initially introduced the GEDO Scan System for clearance applications to improve safety.

“Now, with the introduction of the latest system for track survey and trolley-based mobile mapping data collection, the GEDO system can deliver a wider range of applications to enable users to increase productivity while minimising track occupation.”

The GEDO IMS Field Software and the GEDO Office Software Suite aim to facilitate data flow between the location and office.

The operator can also combine the system with Trimble TX6 and TX8 laser scanners for mapping applications.

The GEDO IMS System is expected to be available from the final quarter of this year.
