India’s Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rail Tel Corporation of India, a neutral telecom infrastructure provider, to offer Wi-Fi internet services at selected Delhi Metro stations.
The MoU was signed by DMRC managing director Mangu Singh and RailTel chairman and managing director R K Bahuguna.

Five stations of the Delhi Metro network have initally been identified for setup of these services.
The stations include Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Vishwavidyalaya, Central Secretariat and Hauz Khas.
Under the deal, installation of the equipment is scheduled to be completed within the next seven months.
Before initiating the project, Rail Tel will carry out necessary surveys, install equipment and carry out maintenance of the installed infrastructure.

By GlobalDataDMRC is currently exploring the possibilities of launching Wi-Fi facilities at its metro stations and trains.
When asked whether the service would be free or paid, a Delhi Metro official was cited by PTI as saying that those modalities will be worked out once the infrastructure is in place.
In February, DMRC awarded a €25m contract to Alstom, in order to carry out track work on the new Line 7 of Delhi Metro.
The new 38-station, 59km-long line, which is 39.47km elevated and 19.11km underground, is part of the Delhi Metro Phase III project to extend the metro network from Lines 6 to 8.
