The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has floated a call for tender inviting consultants to conduct an engineering feasibility study of the Singapore Leg of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) link.

The engineering study will seek to develop options for feasible corridor(s) for the Singapore leg of the HSR link and assess the technical feasibility of the possible HSR corridors.

The corridors include the transportation connectivity for the three possible HSR terminal station locations at the surroundings of Tuas West, Jurong East and the city centre.

Furthermore, the selected consultant will be required to study the impact on existing transport facilities. The study is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.

Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has previously completed a feasibility study on the HSR project.

"The study is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015."

A consortium of Aecom Singapore, Aecom Perunding and SA Architects won a contract worth S$52.8m ($42.7m) in May 2013 to carry out an architectural and engineering consultancy study on the proposed HSR project.

In February 2013, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur agreed to build the new HSR link in a bid to improve connectivity between the two countries.

The 400km HSR project is estimated to cost about MYR40bn ($12.5bn), including MYR10bn ($3.1bn) to buy high-speed bullet trains.

Following the completion, the rail link will reduce the 315km rail journey between the cities from six hours to around 90 minutes.

Both countries are planning to make the HSR link project operational by 2020.
