ISS Group has been chosen by UK-based Hitachi Rail Europe (HRE) to provide integrated facility services for its train maintenance centres in London, Swansea, Bristol and Doncaster.

Under the deal, ISS will provide various services such as security, building maintenance, waste management, janitorial, landscaping, and winterisation, pest control, help desk support, and cleaning.

The deal is valid for three years, and includes option for another two years.

ISS Group UK private sector business COO Gary Kidd said: "This is a great example of ISS tailoring a service solution for our customer, which evolved from the provision of a standalone service to an integrated solution, enabling ISS to provide added value and consistency across the customer's portfolio."

Previously, ISS provided security services during Hitachi Rail Europe’s North Pole site construction phase.

Hitachi Rail Europe currently builds rolling stock, signalling solutions and technologies, which are used in several rail applications in the UK.

The company is also providing the rolling stock for the Department for Transport’s £5.7bn InterCity Express Programme (IEP) that will replace the UK’s fleet of intercity trains on the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines.

Hitachi Rail Europe CEO Jack Commandeur said: “The IEP trains that will go into passenger service on the Great Western Main Line in 2017 and on the East Coast Main Line in 2018 will transform the experience of many millions of fare paying customers.

“Maintenance and service of this brand new fleet of trains will be key to maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction."

The company has recently opened a new rail manufacturing facility in the UK along the routes of the IEP programme.
