Dutch company Hit Rail and Italian ICT services provider AlmavivA have agreed to collaborate to develop new interoperability solutions for the railway industry in Europe.

The latest cooperation agreement is intended to increase connectivity and improve performance systems for the railway industry in line with European technical specifications for interoperability (TSI) in passenger and freight sectors.

New regulations being introduced by the EU for interoperability and communications across rail systems require use of standard messaging and a common interface.

The agreement follows the cooperation established between Hit Rail and AlmavivA in delivering a solution for Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), which manages rail traffic on the Italian national network.

AlmavivA general manager Smeraldo Fiorentini said: “We have already developed a close relationship with our counterparts at Hit Rail and look forward to working together on both the RFI project and many future collaborations.

"It will allow us to offer a combined service that brings the best of our expertise in ICT and Hit Rail’s knowledge of the communications, interfaces and interoperability required."

“It will allow us to offer a combined service to our customers that brings the best of our expertise in ICT and Hit Rail’s knowledge of the communications, interfaces and interoperability required in today’s European rail systems.”
