CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock has unveiled its first low-floor tram for Suzhou, China, which was manufactured as part of a 10-year licence to produce trams based on Bombardier Transportation’s FLEXITY 2 technology.
In July 2012, Bombardier and CSR Puzhen signed an agreement to manufacture trams at the Nanjing manufacturing site. The partnership was signed after CSR was contracted to deliver 18 100% low-floor trams for Suzhou.
The new five-section bi-directional, multi-articulated tram incorporates Bombardier’s FLEXX Urban 3000 bogie and MITRAC propulsion technology.
As part of the partnership, Bombardier has developed the vehicle design, and will provide training and on-site support.
The 32m-long and 2.65m-wide modern trams will be operated by Suzhou New District Tram (SND) within the new and high-tech industrial development zone, a greenfield satellite city within the Suzhou municipality.
The new tram has been designed in compliance with the latest standards in safety, passenger comfort, accessibility and energy consumption.
