US green technology firm Axion International has received a purchase order from a multinational industrial company for its Ecotrax rail ties.

The estimated value of the order is $890,000 and covers the installation of standard size rail ties and switch ties on a self-managed rail siding.

"We are looking forward to adding another client to our growing portfolio of customers."

Axion’s Ecotrax rail ties are suitable for replacing wood ties and are impermeable to rot and insect damage.

Axion International president and CEO Steve Silverman said: "We are looking forward to adding another client to our growing portfolio of customers as we continue to develop a very solid and growing pipeline."

Axion currently supplies its Ecotrax rail ties to several domestic and international transit and freight railroads.

In March, the company won an approval to begin in-track testing for its Ecotrax rail ties in Asia, with one of the busiest transit lines in the world.
