Alstom has secured a €60m contract from Buenos Aires’ metro authority Sbase to deliver 60 Metropolis cars for line D in Argentina.

The trains will be produced at Alstom’s Lapa plant in São Paulo and are scheduled to be delivered next year. Under the deal, Alstom will also supervise maintenance during their first two years of operation.

The 10km line includes 16 stations and is part of a network spanning nearly 60km. Each Metropolis train-set is composed of six cars, which will be capable of accommodating up to 1,500 passengers. The helps SBASE offer additional comfort to the 360,000 daily passengers.

In addition to featuring four automatic doors per side and large gangways, the trains will be equipped with passenger information screens, CCTV and air-conditioning.

"Each Metropolis train-set is composed of six cars, which will be capable of accommodating up to 1,500 passengers."

Alstom’s Latin America senior vice-president Michel Boccaccio said: "We are pleased to be awarded this new contract, which reinforces our presence in Argentina. It is an excellent endorsement of our strong relationship with Sbase who has already ordered us more than 200 Metropolis cars, as well as signalling and services.

"With the new Metropolis, commuters will certainly enjoy travelling aboard a train that is sustainable, comfortable and reliable."

As well as the different urban mobility projects led by the company in Argentina, it has also been involved in mainline projects, including the maintenance and modernisation of locomotives for freight and passenger transport services.
