Alstom has built a new Coradia Polyvalent regional train for Romania as part of the Sighi?oara-Simeria signalling upgrade project signed in 2014 with Romanian company CFR Infrastructura.
The new Coradia Polyvalent dual-mode train has been designed and produced in France and is fully functional but without interior fittings.
The train’s design, configuration and fitting of interiors will be completely performed locally based on requests from the customer and are expected to be complete in the first quarter of next year.
The project comprises modernisation and signalling works on the 170km railway segment Sighi?oara-Co?lariu-Simeria to be equipped with Alstom’s ERTMS Level2 solution called Atlas 200.
Alstom Romania, Bulgaria and Republic of Moldova managing director Gabriel Stanciu said: “Alstom is one of the leading train manufacturers in the world and yet Romania didn’t have any Alstom trains until now.
“Although this first train will have a very specific destination for CFR Infrastructura, for its railway infrastructure rehabilitation projects, this highly performing model is ideal as passenger train for our country, given how well it responds to local landscape, technical requirements and capacity needs.”
