A joint venture (JV) of Indra and Siemens has received a contract from Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif to develop a traffic control and management system (Sitra+) for the entire rail network.

The system will oversee conventional, narrow-gauge and high-speed railways, improving efficiency in rail management and overall services.

With a life cycle between 20 and 30 years, Sitra+ will be designed to enable integration with multiple Adif systems and will come with advanced monitoring services to locate trains, determine crossing points and identify potential delays.

“Railway operations such as train traffic control, rail traffic planning and efficiency are expected to improve significantly.”

Siemens Mobility will develop an automatic traffic enumerator/router that will be integrated with the tool.

This will enable communication interface between the Sitra+ and the Centralized Traffic Control Systems (CTC), as well as enable the operator to perform the majority of the regular traffic management operations, eliminating the need for additional tools.

Indra and Adif are also working on the implementation of a new planner for Spanish rail network.

The planner will help to streamline the scheduling of rail network usage and supply the necessary information to all associated systems in order to optimise operations.

Once both the tools are implemented, railway operations such as train traffic control, rail traffic planning and efficiency are expected to improve significantly.
