The Arcadis-Benthem Crouwel partnership is set to transform Diridon Station, which serves as a major transportation hub in downtown San Jose, US.
Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), City of San Jose, Caltrain and the California High-Speed Rail Authority will also be involved.
The first phase of the partnership will create the San Jose Diridon Station Integrated Station Concept Plan. It is expected to take 18 months at a cost of $6.4m and will involve the design of an integrated multimodal facility for improved transfer between all modes of transport.
The project will see the planning of a station that will be capable of accommodating capacity needs going forward.
It will also create a governance model for partner agencies to design, build and operate Diridon Station.
Arcadis contract manager Steve Truman said: “San Jose is the tenth largest city in the United States and with the emerging public and private development, Diridon Station is set to become one of the busiest transit hubs in the nation.
“Arcadis is excited to once again team with Benthem Crouwel to prepare a cutting-edge, integrated roadmap for the future of Diridon Station.”
The partnership will provide architecture, engineering, urban design, project management and consultancy services.
Arcadis will take up the responsibility of overall project management, engineering and fostering collaboration among the partners.
Urban planning and architectural design services will be provided by Benthem Crouwel Architects.
