As a major player in innovation and the transition to ever safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly methods and tools, Geismar will be presenting some of its latest innovations, as well as a sample of its range of measuring instruments, at the International Railway Industry Exhibition (SIFER).

The Geismar team will also participate in the round table on 28 March dedicated to zero emission equipment. SIFER is also a great opportunity for our technical team to unveil innovative projects that will be implemented during the year.

Building on its success, the Activion systems range continues to expand

In order to offer solutions that limit the impact on the environment and improve the comfort of use for operators, the Activion systems brand of the Geismar Group for carbon-free, electric, or hybrid machines has been extended with a new machine: the Narval battery-powered rail drill. Light but powerful, it is ideal for use in confined spaces due to its versatility and emission-free operation. Its safe and convenient ‘click  and go’ attachment system allows for quick drill bit changes and is also compatible with all Weldon and the new Geismar premium drills.

Designed for railway use, developed to offer a particularly competitive price-performance ratio, and designed to withstand the elements (IP23 protection class), the Narval offers optimum comfort of use and thus completes a fast-growing Activion range already comprising eight zero-emission products:

  • Shark abrasive rail saw
  • Marlin coachscrewing machine
  • Barracuda rail profile grinder
  • Moray portable tamper
  • Hammerhead rail knocker
  • Crab rail lifting trolley
  • Nocturna worksite lighting
  • AGX electric conversion kit

Other zero-emission machines will be added to Geismar’s Activion range in 2023, offering railway operators one of the most complete range of battery-powered equipment on the market.

This is why the Geismar Group will offer visitors to SIFER a preview of its brand new, modular and versatile, 100% electric concept, designed to satisfy all needs for operations on catenary, tracks, and surroundings, particularly in urban areas.

Presented at the round table dedicated to zero-emission solutions on 28 March, this new equipment represents a new approach to rail maintenance, and also to the installation of components and their transport on track. All this in a single multifunctional device with almost infinite applications.

Retrofitting, an eco-friendly and economical solution for railways

Railway machinery and equipment are complex professional products with high added value, in materials, manufacturing and engineering, and with many requirements. Extending their service life is therefore an important part of maximising the return on investment for users, but not the only one. It also contributes to improving worker comfort and promoting a more sustainable approach to the railway world.

This is why retrofitting (replacing thermal power units with electric or hybrid power units) is of great interest for track construction and maintenance machines, which can have life spans of several decades. This is especially true for quality machines such as those designed and manufactured by Geismar.

The retrofitting of small machines such as rail grinders or coachscrewing machines, which have a life expectancy exceeding that of the combustion engines that drive them, is a subject that Geismar’s engineering department has been working on from the start.

Today, the Activion Gear Exchange (AGX) kit allows the conversion of no less than five different machines to electric. The patented Activion electric motor is not only as powerful as its combustion counterpart, but also has the advantage of being more energy efficient and robust. It will last longer than conventional single-cylinder engines, which have a greater number of internal parts, all of which are susceptible to wear and tear and require more regular maintenance.

The AGX retrofit is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to handheld tools providing customers with an economical and emission free, environmentally friendly solution.

This explains the success of this turnkey solution for the user and allows Geismar’s design offices to continue to push the boundaries of electrification and to further develop the compatibility of this kit with other machines.

GEMS: a complete range of measuring equipment

Since rail track is nothing without perfect control of its geometry and parameters, Geismar offers, thanks to its recognised experience, a complete range of measuring equipment adapted to any type of construction site. From the track gauge to towed measuring systems, all Geismar solutions are customer oriented and guarantee perfect adaptation to their needs.

At SIFER, Geismar will showcase a sample of its range, including the Rectirail-DL2: an electronic rail straightness gauge that allows for perfect measurement of the running surface, flanks, and filleting thanks to its 100 sensors, all integrated into an ergonomic and lightweight chassis.

The GEMS range of instruments will also be represented by the Garnet-DL digital track gauge for track and switch geometry measurement, which, in addition to its ability to measure all the geometry parameters of a track, offers many advantages to the user. Equipped with Bluetooth connection for recording and analysing data directly on a smartphone and complete management and control software, the Garnet-DL is light, easy to handle, and compatible with all types of track.

Finally, the Opal-mini will complete this vision of Geismar’s expertise in the field of measurement by offering a compact and highly accurate device for measuring levelling and rail alignment. Thanks to its powerful LASER, which guarantees precise values even at 30 metres, the Opal-mini device offers easy track measurement operations and can be installed in just a few seconds.

As accuracy is essential in measurement and control, the maintenance of measuring instruments and their precision calibration is essential. For this reason, and to ensure that readings are always reliable, Geismar offers a wide range of associated services, from preventive and corrective maintenance to laboratory calibration of instruments.

This ensures that the GEMS range of measuring equipment remains the best ally for operators on any type of site.

From purchase to refurbishment, Geismar is at your service

Because the best performing and longest lasting equipment needs the best care, Geismar offers a range of services throughout the life of its machines. In addition to the traditional offerings of troubleshooting, maintenance, and extended warranties, Geismar’s range of services has recently expanded to include new services to meet new customer needs. From commissioning machines to upgrading them, Geismar also provides spare parts kits to increase their efficiency and lifetime. Smart Pack and Life+ Pack are the ideal solution for operators, combining all the parts needed for their machine to overcome wear and tear and optimise the return on their investment in a preventive manner.

To go one step further with its customers and reconcile the environment with budgetary control, the Geismar Reborn program allows operators to benefit from the complete refurbishment of their equipment so that they can enjoy it even longer.

Geismar’s certified second-hand machines are also in use, increasing the total life of machines by offering the certainty of equipment with unrivalled performance and ready to be put back into service.

Machine rental offers great flexibility to the railway industry, as Geismar has a large fleet of ready-to-use machines, including aerial platforms and road-rail shovels, light equipment such as coachscrewing machines, rail profile grinders, vibrators, and more, as well as measuring equipment. A customer-oriented service that allows us to meet specific needs for a limited period of time, without any commitment.

These solutions further increase the availability of Geismar machines while allowing operators to optimise their return on investment and speed up their operations on site.
