Alstom has successfully deployed and commissioned its SIL 4 signalling Electronic Interlocking SYSTEM (IXL solution-SmartLock 400 GP) on the Deirut section of the Beni Suef Assuyt railway track in Egypt.
In addition, the French rolling stock manufacturing company has also installed a support system and SCADA that oversees and controls different subsystems, based on Alstom ICONIS, TLC system and 11kV power supply substation.

The Deirut section passes through the Abu Qurqas, El Roda and Mallawi stations, which are already in service.
More than 50km of this track is equipped with Alstom’s system, including contraflow function.
Adding to the 45km, the trains can travel at speeds up to 160km/h with a movement of 220 trains a day.
In total, the commissioned length is 100km with seven stations, 160-point machines and 32 level crossings.

Alstom has been supporting the Egyptian railway infrastructure development since 1971.
Alstom’s current projects in the country include the improvement of the signalling system on the Beni Sueif Assuyt track and two monorail lines for Cairo.
Last month, Alstom completed its previously announced acquisition of Bombardier’s rail business.
The deal concluded nearly a year after Bombardier and key shareholder Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Alstom for the divestiture of Bombardier Transportation.
