Moscow has opened the first two lines of the Moscow Central Diameters for public use on 21 November.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Railways CEO Oleg Belozerov, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov and Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh were in attendance at the inaugural ceremony.

The officials made the first trip from Belorusskaya to Fili station using the Ivolga train, which is made in Russia.
MCD-1, or Belorussko-Savelovsky, connects Odintsovo and Lobnya, stretching over a distance of 52km. MCD-2, or Kursko-Rizhsky, spans over a length of 80km, connecting Nakhabino and Podolsk.
The project will include the construction of five central diameters in total. MCD-3 will run from Zelenograd to Ramenskoye, MCD-4 will connect Aprelevka and Zheleznodorozhny, while MCD-5 will connect Pushkino and Domodedovo.
There are 57 stations between the two lines, of which 19 are connected to the existing metro lines, Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and radial railway lines. The Moscow Central Diameters routes are not linked to any specific railway station, unlike the old suburban lines.

The MCD is being developed as a joint project of the Russian Transport Ministry, the Moscow Government, the Moscow Region Government and Russian Railways (RZD). The aim of the project is to reduce infrastructure congestion and enable the region’s residents to access transport easily.
In August this year, Lastochka, a high-speed electric train, equipped with an unmanned driving system was tested at the experimental ring of the Research Institute of Railway Transport in Shcherbinka, Moscow.
The testing was part of the PRO//Motion.1520 event, which took place on 28 August.
In June, Russian Railways (RZD) placed a nearly €1.1bn order with Siemens Mobility and Ural Locomotives to procure 13 high-speed Velaro RUS trains.
