Finland-based rail traffic safety provider Mipro has secured a deal to work as a partner with Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railway) in the renovation of the signalling systems on the Lääne-Harju track section.
The €16.5m deal follows a global tender process conducted last year and will see Mipro supplying a new traffic management system, as well as a signalling system for nearly 80km of railway track running west from Tallinn.

The proposed renovation is expected to improve safety on the Lääne–Harju track, which has recently been witnessing growing numbers of traffic.
Mipro managing director Juha Nurmi said: “Mipro’s goal is to internationalise its rail safety business, so this cooperation project with Eesti Raudtee is a major step in the implementation of our strategy.
“Through this unique collaboration, Finnish excellence in the field of rail traffic safety systems will enhance rail traffic efficiency and safety in Estonia.”
The renovation project will be carried out in stages and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Mipro plans to employ local partners in the project.

By GlobalDataEesti Raudtee managing director Erik Laidvee said: “As a result of this contract we expect to achieve significant savings, which we will invest in additional railway infrastructure projects.”
Mipro currently employs over 100 people and serves the rail traffic and water safety sectors.
In 2016, the company won a deal, valued at €22.3m, from the Finnish Transport Agency, to provide new signalling systems for three marshalling yards in eastern Finland, including Niirala, Kotolahti-Mussalo in Kotka, and Vainikkala.
