A consortium featuring the Jacobs Engineering Group and Idom has been selected as the Employer’s Designer by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for the development of a new metro system in Dublin.
Under the terms of the contract, the consortium will work alongside the National Transport Authority (NTA) and TII to select the preferred route of the metro line, as well as consider associated business cases and environmental support work.

The consortium will also develop the scheme railway orders and implement the planning process through Ireland’s statutory and quasi-judicial body An Bord Pleanála.
Subject to a successful oral hearing, it will also be responsible for the contracting and delivery strategy, as well as engagement services with construction delivery partners.
The consortium will also provide technical and commercial guidance during the construction delivery phase.

The 19km-long metro service is expected to include the construction of an 11km-long tunnel network through the city.
Running from Swords to Dublin’s south city centre via Dublin Airport, the line will feature ten underground and five above-ground stations.
The scheme also intends to upgrade the existing LUAS green line to Sandford to boost its capacity, as well as integrate it with the new metro system.
