The new app features the Freight Operation Information System (FOIS) Map View, which is a GIS-based monitoring and management tool that has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

FOIS provides layered views of freight trains across Indian Railways network in order to facilitate division, zone and board levels of management to improve freight operations.

Furthermore, Indian Railways has also introduced modern Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Kiosk Machines to print tickets booked through the UTS app, as part of a separate development.

The facility will allow passengers to receive printed tickets by placing the screen of their mobile phone displaying the SMS of the ticket into the designated slot of the OCR Kiosk machine.

Western Railway is the first zone under Indian railways to implement this new feature.
