RKH Qitarat has secured the operations and maintenance contract for the Doha automated metro and Lusail light rail network in Qatar.

Awarded by national public transport operator Qatar Rail, the 20-year contract is estimated to be worth €3bn.

The Doha automated metro is scheduled to be launched in stages starting from the end of next year and expected to become fully operational by 2020.

The whole system will have 37 stations with 75km of track.

It will be equipped with Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, a Wi-Fi based control system between vehicles and the computers controlling traffic.

Initially, the Doha metro system will consist of the Red, Green and Gold lines.

Besides the Doha metro system, RKH Qitarat will operate and maintain the Lusail light rail network that has nearly 18km of track and four lines serving 25 stations.

The rail network is currently under construction and its first part will open in January 2019, with construction expected to be completed in 2020.

RKH Qitarat is the joint venture based on a consortium between RATP Dev and Keolis (49%) and the Hamad Group (51%).
