Airlinx Transit Partners, a joint venture between Aecon Construction and Dufferin Construction, has won a C$300m (US$299m) contract from Toronto’s public transport agency Metrolinx in Canada to build the Toronto Air Rail Link project.

The project involves designing, building and financing a passenger station and 3km rail line completing the rail link between Pearson International Airport and Toronto’s downtown district.

The rail link will allow Metrolinx to provide rail services every 15 minutes between Pearson International Airport and downtown Toronto.

The other groups who were shortlisted to bid were AirLink Group, Pearson Express and Toronto Railway Airport Consortium.

Construction of the rail link is expected to begin in spring 2012 and be completed in time for the 2015 Pan American Games.
