Copenhagen S-train station Nordhavn

Hochtief and Züblin have secured a €150m tunnelling contract for a section of the City Circle line in Copenhagen, Denmark.

An agreement was signed between Hochtief, Züblin and Metroselskabet, the owner and operator of the Copenhagen metro.

The contract covers the construction of two 1,800m and 1,600m-long tunnels, in addition to a small tunnel, a ramp structure, a service shaft/emergency exit and a pedestrian transfer tunnel to the adjacent Nordhavn S-train rail station.

Hochtief infrastructure general manager Wilfried Rammler said: "With this project, we continue to grow systematically in the Scandinavian infrastructure market and thus go on positioning ourselves as a strong provider for the expansion of modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure in Europe."

Works on the project will begin this month and are scheduled for completion in 2019.

On completion, the project will connect Copenhagen’s northern harbour to the capital’s subway ring. The project will also allow the switching of transportation systems in the region.
