German freight rail operator Mosolf Automotive Railway (MAR) is set to add 100 special open wagons to its fleet, in a bid to increase its freight capacity.

MAR had signed an agreement with goods wagons leaser Touax to use wagons since last month. The company said it may own the wagons by next year.

With this development, the current fleet of Mosolf will be expanded to 450 special wagons. These double-decker wagons with a loading length of 31m are designed to transport cars and light commercial vehicles.

Mosolf Automotive Railway managing director Wolfgang Göbel said: "We’re planning to expand our own company fleet of railway wagons to more than 500 during the next few years.

"We’re better able to manage these transport volumes and offer our customers an ideal transport chain."

The company stated that the existing fleet of wagons serves European transport network of Mosolf Group.

MAR offers value-added services for automobile manufacturers along with its network including warehouse, technology and workshop services, handover inspections or inserting additional equipment.

In addition, in order to guarantee smooth operation, the firm itself carries out the maintenance work on the wagons and the regular servicing, MAR said.
