US-based Progress Rail Services has acquired Inspired Systems as part of plans to expand signalling offerings.

Headquartered in Canning Vale in Western Australia and with another facility in Port Headland, Inspired Systems currently offers asset protection and condition-based monitoring systems.

Its product portfolio allows operators to increase efficiency and improve safety of rolling stock assets.

Progress Rail Engineering and Track Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar. Its senior vice-president Dave Roeder said: "We’ve collaborated with Inspired since 2010, and they have made great strides to meet the needs of customers in the region, paying special attention to the rugged environment and creating products and services that can easily adapt.

Inspired’s systems compile data from wayside monitoring equipment to help identify issues in real-time. They also monitor general utilisation and maintenance needs.

Its CEO Greg Martin said: "This will give us the corporate strength we need to pursue bigger projects here in Australia and to expand our markets into the US and South America.

"We have had a long-term relationship with Progress Rail and this will formalise the way we cooperate. We are certain that Inspired Systems will be a valuable addition to the Progress Rail group of companies."

Inspired also has a full suite of asset protection systems to support track safety, such as bearing monitoring, dragging equipment, high wide-load detection, hot bearing detectors, hot wheel detectors, and rail stress and temperature monitoring.
