Hoppecke will carry out condition assessments on the Jubilee line, which will include the 118 batteries installed by the company in 1996. When the Central line’s rolling stock was built in 1992, Hoppecke also installed 350 batteries on that network.

In addition, the company will install its newly designed battery boxes, which will be important to the upkeep of the trains. The design incorporates sliders to enable batteries to be maintained without removing them from the train. This will improve speed of maintenance and health and safety.

"Ensuring Tube batteries are able to provide critical emergency power when required is exactly why these programmes are absolutely essential."

Hoppecke Industrial Batteries’ special & reserve power systems national sales manager Paul Butchart said: "Power loss issues with Underground trains could potentially cause them to stop suddenly in a tunnel and can run up high costs for Transport for London.
