Femern Link Contractors joint venture has secured three contracts with a combined value of €3.4bn from the Danish government to design and build a road and rail tunnel Fehmarnbelt link in Copenhagen.

Once completed, it will be the longest immersed road and rail tunnel in the world and will reduce travelling time between the German and Danish coasts.

The immersed tunnel will be 18km, connecting Denmark’s Lolland Falster region with Germany’s Schleswig Holstein region.

Among the three contracts, two include construction of the immersed tunnel and the tunnel element factory, which will make the precast tunnel elements. The remaining contract includes the building of portal structures, toll buildings, bridges, and ramps.

Femern Link Contractors joint venture includes VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Per Aarsleff Holding, Solétanche-Bachy International, CFE, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, Max Bögl Stiftung, BAM Infra, and BAM International.

Dredging International (DEME Group) has been appointed as dragging subcontractor for the tunnel contracts, while COWI will consult all three contracts.
