CSX Transportation (CSX) and the Louisville and Indiana Railroad (LIRC) have stated train traffic on the LIRC line from Louisville to Seymour will increase over the next few weeks.

On or soon after 1 September, CSXT will increase the number of operating trains on the LIRC line from the current three to four trains to around 10 trains per day, with further increases in the future.

The federal Surface Transportation Board (STB) granted approval to the operational changes last April as part of an agreement between LIRC and CSX.

However, train speeds are set to increase from the present limit of 25 mph to a maximum of 49 mph at several locations and track and signal improvements have also been undertaken to enable their safety.
