Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has awarded a new construction and maintenance contract to RailConnect New South Wales (NSW), a joint venture (JV) of Hyundai Rotem, Mitsubishi Electric Australia, and UGL Rail.

The contract is worth A$2.3bn ($1.7bn) and has a term of 15 years. Railconnect NSW will replace the carriages of trains currently carrying passengers from Sydney to destinations including Central Coast, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains, and the South Coast.

CAF México has been awarded a contract by Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (Mexico City Metro) for supplying pneumatic tyred-trains for Line 1 of the metro.

The contract was awarded under the metro’s vehicle and infrastructure refurbishment programme and will see the delivery of ten trains starting from 2018.

Balfour Beatty will design and construct a 25 kilovolt (kV) AC overhead catenary system for new high-speed trains; construct two traction power, one switching, and seven paralleling substations; and replace the existing signalling systems and earth facilities to allow for the electrification. Work is expected to be completed by 2020.

Running through 17 US cities, the Caltrain corridor is served by 92 trains carrying more than 65,000 commuters a day.

ProRail has awarded a station renovation contract worth €90m ($101.2m) to BAM.

BAM will redesign the Driebergen-Zeist railway station area in the Netherlands, which is operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. It will install  energy-efficient systems and solar panels on the platform roofs and construct two more tracks, a new bus station, and underground cycle parking.

BAM will also build an underpass under the tracks and improve local roads near the station to reduce congestion.
