Australia's Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has contracted Alstom to deliver additional X’Trapolis trainsets for Melbourne’s suburban rail network.
Valued at €100m, the contract requires Alstom to deliver nine X’Trapolis trains to PTV.

The deal will bring the total number of trains in PTV’s fleet to 101.
Alstom Australia and New Zealand managing director Mark Coxon said: “We are proud to have been trusted by the Victorian government to supply a further nine trains from our industrial base in Ballarat. This will guarantee regional jobs, training and investment and ensure ongoing support to Alstom’s extensive network of local suppliers.
“These new trains will provide additional transport capacity to the residents of Melbourne’s area and allow them to commute on-board a reliable, comfortable and environmental-friendly mode of transport.”
The 145m-long train with six cars has been designed to optimise the capacity to accommodate 1,430 passengers, while maximising passenger experience, comfort and safety, Alstom stated.

Production of the new trains will begin at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Ballarat later this year, with plans to deliver the 101st train in late-2018.
Over ten years, more than 4,600 X’Trapolis cars have been purchased by countries such as Australia, Chile, Spain, South Africa and France.
