Auxiliary Power Systems for Metros

TPS has delivered more than 2,000 auxiliary power supplies (APS) for a range of Metro platforms worldwide, including Toronto Transit, Metro Atlanta, Metro Ankara and the London Underground.

The company has provided an APS solution for the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) 5000 series cars. The challenge was to design a system that would perform reliably under varying weather conditions. Chicago is exposed to adverse weather, with temperatures rising to more than 30°C in summer months and dropping below -15°C in winter months.

TPS worked with Bombardier and CTA to design an APS that met their requirements and successfully supplied more than 800 units. The company was chosen for this project due to its trusted pedigree of delivering high-quality power conversion solutions for the North American market.
