UK-based Rail Delivery Group (RDG) has launched a new campaign to highlight the portal PlusBike, which can be used by people to obtain more information about cycle-friendly train travel.

The portal features details of cycle facilities at stations, rules regarding bikes on trains, and whether reservations are available or required.

Information regarding links to local cycle-hire businesses is also available.

RDG’s customer experience managing director Jacqueline Starr said: "Record numbers of people are getting on their bikes as part of their rail journeys.

"We have provided £29m to improve bicycle facilities at hundreds of railway stations since 2012 and have invested in PlusBike."

"We have more cycle spaces at stations than ever before, and PlusBike shows people just how easy it is to take your cycle to the station or on the train, helping cycles play a key part of the customer journey."

The latest figures have revealed that cycle-rail journeys in the UK are now at 50 million per year, which represents a 40% rise since 2010.
