Greenbrier Companies subsidiary Greenbrier Management Services (GMS) has reported that the size of its railcar fleet under management has expanded by roughly 85,000 railcars since 31 August last year.

This represents an increase of more than 30% during this period.

GMS now provides management services for more than 20% of North America’s total railcar fleet, comprising a total of 355,000 railcars across its management portfolio.

Greenbrier chairman and CEO William Furman said: “Through GMS, Greenbrier provides the industry’s most comprehensive offering of railcar asset management services to all constituencies in the rail freight business.

“The rapid expansion of GMS’ managed railcar fleet in recent months occurred principally with Class I railroads, where quality, service and reliability are essential.”

The company has also launched a new web-based learning management tool via its Regulatory Services Group.

The tool is intended to make hazmat transportation and non-destructive testing training available to tank car management customers on demand.

Customers can also use the online training systems to participate in various types of training at their convenience.

GMS’ new AssetView36 asset management platform provides web-based access to real-time data such as maintenance performance, asset characteristics, compliance documentation, location and logistics reporting, as well as a variety of other important information that may be required by railcar owners and fleet managers.

GMS senior vice-president and head Dan Weiler said: “Maximising the benefits derived from pairing industry experts with advanced technologies is at the core of what we do at GMS.”

The company’s portfolio of railcar management services currently include maintenance expense management and billing administration, repair expense forecasting, tank car engineering, regulatory compliance assistance and scheduled maintenance programme design, among others.
