Lacon Group in Munich, Bavaria, provides a wide range of services for electronic and electro mechanical assemblies in the railway sector. Whether it is conventional PCB assembly according to IPC3 standards, or cable harnessing according to IRIS quality requirements, we have expertise proven by numerous references.

In addition, we offer a special focus on repair and end-of-life management. Our customers range from operators and OEMs to system suppliers for brake systems, doors and HVAC.

PCB assembly, cable harnessing and cabinet assembly for rail

Our manufacturing infrastructure is prepared for the typical high mix / low volume requirements of rolling stock assemblies. Whether it is a PCB assembly or a cable harness, we conduct the complete process, from prototyping with customers’ design engineers to documentation, sourcing, ramp up and serial production.

Lacon even supports the first installation of the sub assembly into the complete system at the customer site. We professionally manage any kind of technical changes and ensure long-term availability of the assembled component.

Cable harness for brake control system: each one is tested on a test computer with item-specific test certificate. Cable marking is according to EN railway standards.
Cross sectional analyses of crimped terminals: the crimped terminal and wire are ground smooth, etched and viewed under magnification. We deploy all methods of quality inspection for crimped terminals.
Brake control cabinets: The assembly includes the inspection of the cabinet, the complete wiring and the final testing (including function test).
Moulded connectors: especially for railway applications, we have developed a procedure for customised injection mouldings for a small series.
Health monitoring for electronic assemblies: we can tell you with a high reliability how long you can still purchase your PCB from your EMS manufacturer.

Industrial engineering, manufacturing and railway connectors

Lacon has over 15 years of experience in the industrial engineering and manufacturing of brake controls (gantries and container), jumper cables, radio cabinets, cabinets and wiring for auxiliary units and driver’s cabin wiring.

We provide drawings, design and optimisation of test procedures, supervision of welding assemblies from subcontractors, and management of the complete supply chain, including establishing KANBAN stores at the customer’s site.

Besides manufactured items, we also offer a large distribution assortment of railway-specific connectors, including round connectors, heavy-duty connectors, terminal blocks and any kind of marking systems for cable harnesses.

End-of-life management of electronic railway assemblies

Long-term availability of electronic or electro-mechanical components is becoming more and more important for operators but also for the OEMs and their key component suppliers. Whether it is a retrofit of a complete rolling stock set or only a minor spare replacement, long-term availability within narrow economical boundaries must be solved.

Repair, replacement and redesign for railways

There is no simple way to solve an obsolescence issue. Therefore Lacon is offering a wide portfolio of different services. Since there is no standard procedure for obsolescence issues we will draft an appropriate path for solving the specific problem within given economical boundaries in close collaboration with the customer.
