TagMaster, the leading producer of advanced RFID solutions for railway applications, together with representatives from the Tongji University in Shanghai, has today signed an agreement on collaborative research concerning the development of RFID applications within the railway industry in China using TagMaster’s high performance RFID equipment.
The Institute of Railway & Urban Transit (IRRT) at Shanghai Tongji University together with Shanghai Richor Commercial, (RICHOR), who is TagMaster’s premium distributor for the transportation sector in China, has agreed to setup a TagMaster equipped RFID laboratory at the University.
The aim of this collaboration is to develop and test RFID applications for Railway and Mass Transit systems and to provide RFID training for the students. The laboratory, which is located at the newly built JiaDing Campus, will be used to investigate the use of TagMaster’s RFID equipment when installed in either onboard trains or in track-side configurations. The JiaDing Campus has its own 700m section of test track and locomotives, which will also be used to verify RFID applications developed at the university.
Tongji University is one of Chinas leading universities, directly under the State Ministry of Education in China. The university is a comprehensive institute offering a wide range of programs in sciences, engineering, medicine, arts, law, economics and management. It offers degree programs both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and the engineering program includes the IRRT research centre, under which the RFID research will be conducted.
“This collaborative research agreement with Tongji University creates an important long-term strategic partnership for TagMaster and RICHOR in China. It provides a unique opportunity to both develop and test RFID solutions at the University, for use in the Chinese railway market. The modern JiaDing Campus is one of the very few research locations where testing can take place both in the laboratory and on their own test track,” says Richard Holt, director of transportation at TagMaste.
