KEYMILE’s new slogan ‘because connectivity matters’ enhances its profile in both the mission-critical systems and broadband systems markets.

Dependency on communications structures is on the rise in all industries. Network operators these days need to provide an increasing volume of information reliably and securely at ever higher speeds. KEYMILE is a leading supplier of communications solutions in access and transmission systems. The company has revised its strategic positioning to face these new market challenges. Its ‘because connectivity matters’ slogan signifies that KEYMILE is strengthening operations in the two core markets of mission-critical and broadband systems.

KEYMILE consolidated its mission-critical systems business by taking over Mannheim-based HYTEC Gerätebau GmbH last year. Companies and customers in this market segment expect top availability of mission-critical data, as well as services, interfaces and transmission with different technologies like SDH and Ethernet. Secure data transmission of highly sensitive information has to function flawlessly even under difficult conditions.

For many years KEYMILE’s reliable data-transmission systems have been established products at many railways companies and in utilities’ dedicated networks. New to the portfolio are HYTEC products which specialise on process and data communication. These allow KEYMILE to add to its portfolio of solutions and above all expand with smart grids. Smart-grid solutions play a key role in increasing sustainable energy networks. As regards mission-critical networks, KEYMILE is progressively turning to sales partners with industry expertise and jointly wants to tap into new customer bases and market segments worldwide.

Across the world the broadband market is characterised by a growing demand for higher and higher data rates. Therefore, significant expansion of existing and the creation of new network infrastructures in terms of access and the transmission network are required. In the broadband systems segment KEYMILE is pursuing a two-pronged strategy with VDSL2 with vectoring and with optical fibre. KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate supports copper and optical fibre connections to enable it to offer the ideal solution to every customer.

In the future KEYMILE expects more and more customer connections via optical fibre, as in the long term optical fibre will deliver the highest transmission bandwidth. Network operators can use vectoring technology as the bridge to households’ optical fibre connections. With VDSL2, vectoring compensates for the interference on the existing copper wire pair and can therefore increase the achievable data rate on the last mile. From the exchanges the optical fibre connection goes via street cabinets (FTTC) into each building (FTTB) or directly to the end customer (FTTH).

Because of its long-standing experience on the global telecommunications market KEYMILE knows the challenges network operators pose. State-of-the-art transmission technology in access and transmission systems and a number of possible interfaces for a variety of different applications pave the way for smooth migration to future-proof broadband networks. This also includes G.fast evaluation, a potential subsequent VDSL2 standard, as well as future SDN-based architectures.

KEYMILE CEO Björn Claassen said: "KEYMILE provides professional support when it comes to safety-critical networks. It offers a wide portfolio to assist customers actively in migrating from traditional technology to IP."

"Because connectivity matters also indicates that security and trust are key components of KEYMILE’s corporate culture and that our products are made in Germany. Every connection counts, particularly in the case of KEYMILE’s modular telecommunications technology. As criteria for network operators, these aspects are more important than ever".
