Luxemburg national operator Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) has awarded a contract of nearly €360m to Alstom to supply 34 regional high-capacity double-deck trains.
Alstom will supply 80m and 160m long trains from its Coradia range of modular trains.

Capable of travelling at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the trains will operate across the national network of Luxemburg, as well as in Belgium and France.
Delivery of the vehicles will begin from December 2021.
CFL CEO Marc Wengler said: “The new trains are necessary for the replacement of existing material and to meet the significant expected increase of passengers commuting to Luxemburg.”
Equipped with ERTMS (ETCS level 2-baseline 3) and TBL1+ signalling systems, the Coradia trains will feature WIFI services, LED lighting and a dynamic passenger information system.

By GlobalDataThey will have spacious and well-lit areas for reading and resting, amenities for passengers with reduced mobility, restrooms and dedicated areas to keep bicycles.
All coaches will have security cameras to enhance passenger and crew safety.
Alstom Europe senior vice-president Gian Luca Erbacci said: “The new train we offer is a concentration of the latest innovations from our proven Coradia platform.
“With a total capacity of more than 15,000 seats, these trains will allow CFL to safely carry more passengers, improving mobility and accessibility throughout Luxemburg.”
The trains will be designed and developed at Alstom’s French site in Valenciennes and manufactured at its Barcelona facility in Spain.
Currently, 2,300 Coradia trains are in operation across nine European countries.
