A new section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line in India is set to begin commercial operations from next week.

The new 25.6km-long Janakpuri West–Kalkaji Mandir Metro corridor comprises 16 stations and is the longest stretch to be opened in Delhi Metro’s Phase 3.

This section of the Magenta Line will be opened on 28 May, with passenger services to begin from the next day.

About 23km (14 stations) of the section will be underground, while Sadar Bazar and Shankar Vihar stations will be elevated.

The full 38.2km-long Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden Magenta corridor will become operational following the inauguration of the new stations.

The corridor will feature two new interchange facilities at Janakpuri West and Hauz Khas.

The Janakpuri West interchange will enable passengers to swap with the Dwarka–Noida/ Vaishali Blue Line, while the Hauz Khas interchange facility will offer connectivity with the Huda City Centre–Samaypur Badli Yellow line.

It will also offer direct connectivity to the domestic terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

All passengers travelling from Gurugram can interchange at Hauz Khas to reach south Delhi and Noida. Commuters from Noida can also directly reach the domestic terminal of the airport.

Once the sections are operational, the overall Delhi Metro system will be 278km-long with 202 stations.

The opening of the Janakpuri West–Kalkaji Mandir Metro corridor will also mark the commissioning of a total of 88km of Phase 3 corridors.

Another 72km of metro rail corridor works are currently under construction.
