Consortium SaVe has secured a contract from the Port of Rotterdam Authority in the Netherlands to build the substructure for the Theemsweg route.
The SaVe consortium consists of five construction companies: Besix, Mobilis, Dura Vermeer, Hollandia and Iemants.

The construction of the new freight line is expected to increase freight train traffic, as well as strengthen rail connectivity from the western port area to the hinterland.
Under the terms of the contract, the consortium will build a 4km long raised railway viaduct including two steel arch bridges halfway along the port railway line.
Expected to begin this year, construction works are slated to be completed by 2020.
Port of Rotterdam Authority chief operating officer Ronald Paul said: “This connection is of key importance for the accessibility of the Port of Rotterdam railway system.”

By GlobalDataThe contract forms a part of the Theemsweg route construction project, which will involve building the superstructure, including railway and other associated systems.
The project will require a total investment of nearly €300m, of which the European Union will provide €62m as subsidy.
The remaining amount will be provided by the Port Authority and the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
The Theemsweg route is expected to support the increase in rail freight movement to and from Brittanniëhaven by removing bottlenecks.
The route, comprising two arched bridges, will run across a raised railway viaduct and will connect to the existing track by the A15.
