Malaysian engineering group George Kent has joined a consortium of European firms to bid for the construction and maintenance of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) link.
The consortium also includes Siemens, Alstom, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and Porr.

George Kent is set to work with other consortium members to develop a joint tender that will encompass engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) works relating to the rail project.
The partnership is expected to leverage the European companies’ technologies and project experience with the Malaysian firm’s local expertise.

The tender for the HSR project is scheduled to close on 29 June and the decision is expected to be announced by the end of this year.
Various other companies are also expected to submit tenders for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR project, including firms based in China, Japan and South Korea, reported Reuters.
