HDR has secured a contract to support the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) in the planning of the Tacoma Dome Link Extension (TDLE) project in Washington, US.
The project is slated to complete the light-rail service connection between Seattle and Tacoma in order to provide a faster transportation alternative for commuters and help reduce congestion on the roadways of the South Sound corridor.

HDR will provide planning, preliminary engineering, environmental and public involvement services for the 9.7mi light rail transit extension project as part of the new arrangement.
The extension will feature four new transit stations, as well as a new operations and maintenance facility.
HDR project manager Sharon Kelly said: “With four new LRT stations, Sound Transit and the cities in the corridor will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform station areas into vibrant new station-communities.
“While Sound Transit has defined a representative alignment and general station locations, we will help them refine both in ways that benefit these cities for generations.”

By GlobalDataThe TDLE project will continue towards the south from the Federal Way Link Extension (FWLE), while the alignment will continue through South Federal Way, Fife and East Tacoma, terminating near the Tacoma Dome transit hub.
It will also offer connections to the Tacoma Link urban rail transit system, Amtrak and Sounder commuter rail service.
Public participation is expected to be sought from various stakeholders to help finalise the plan in the near future.
The project is expected to become operational in 2030.
