Brazil’s Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (CMSP) has contracted Thales to deliver integrated telecommunications systems for the Line 17-Gold project of the São Paulo monorail.

Currently under construction, Line 17 is one of the three planned monorail lines in the city and will connect Congonhas International Airport and São Paulo’s metro rail network.

Thales has teamed up with local partner T’Trans to provide the solution over the next 22 months. This deal represents the sixth transportation contract won by Thales in Brazil since 2010.

The order will involve delivery of a master clock, Thales passenger information system (APIS SW) and CCTV systems, as well as transmission and telephony subsystems. Thales is also installing its Seltrac communications-based train control system on the monorail.

The integrated telecommunications solution is based on the Thales security and surveillance platform (EPS SW), which is designed to offer lower operation and maintenance costs.

Using this platform, train operators can display, record and search video images to enable better decision-making for various operational scenarios.

The APIS SW generates and distributes traffic-related information in real time to both the operator and its users.

Line 17 will start at Line 1 Jabaquara terminus station and terminate at Line 4 Morumbi station São Paulo. The monorail line is expected to serve about 252,000 passengers daily with trains travelling at headways of 200 seconds.

CMSP had also received similar transportation contracts for the monorail in Manaus, the Santos tramway and the Salvador metro in Brazil.
