UK-based engineering firm WS Atkins has secured an £80m design contract for the Doha Metro Gold Line in Qatar.
Atkins has been appointed as the lead designer by the consortium of contractors comprising Greek contractor Aktor, Yapi Merkezi and STFA from Turkey, India’s Larsen & Toubro and Al Jaber Engineering.

The order forms a part of the £2.5bn Doha Metro Gold Line project awarded to the consortium and the project is scheduled to be completed in 54 months.
According to Qatar National Vision 2030, the Doha Metro is a key infrastructure project that is anticipated to be carried out with a €20bn budget and will create more than 1,000 jobs.
Construction of the entire Doha Metro network will be carried out in phases and will have four lines with 98 stations over a total length of 300km. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
Doha Metro’s four lines will link major sites such as Education City, West Bay, Lusail, Hamad Bin Khalifa International Airport and the Qatar National Convention Centre.
